WHAT'S GOING ON?

 

 


Whenever anyone offers explanations or descriptions of the nature of reality/this/what is, or tells you who/what you "truly" are, all that is happening is some thoughts arise that appear to explain what is going on. Whether about you or life or reality, the belief that these thoughts are accurate in any way is like going up to a squirrel and asking what it truly is.

No more information outside of the conditioned thinking is possible when asking these questions to what seems to be your internal self (as "internal" is simply one more interpretation) or asking what you perceive as "others."

From neuroscience to nonduality philosophers, the conclusion is always the same----all that can ever happen is what is perceived and experienced, and any interpretation of that experience is part of it. There is no observer looking in or out, thus even ideas like a self or other or reality or life are part of the interpretive scheme that appears in thinking, and there is not the slightest way to know what that is or why that is.

What can seem to happen is that all the culturally accepted reference points regarding the world of separate humans may be seen as both logically and perceptually impossible. The conclusion that you are what is referred to as a "person" ----a separate autonomous entity with a fixed and stable identity in a world of fixed and stable things and beings ----can be seen/intuited/known as illusory.

This happens in the very same way that a Christian can logically and perceptually come to know without question that the God and Bible story cannot possibly be real or true. However, you are in the same position as our Christian friend realizing that his foundation of being a child of God saved by Jesus is an absolute fantasy. This realization in no way confers upon him the ability to know the "true" God or anything about what may or may not exist beyond his own ever-shifting series of experiences that seem tied together by a very fallible and fragile and unreliable set of cognitive processes.

You may come to know that you cannot possibly be a static and unchanging central character with free will and identity living in a world of separation moving through time and space, but no one has ever, to my knowledge, been able to express what any appearance actually is, as all thought is like an operating system trying to see what is outside of the computer. 💓

MIRANDA IN WONDERLAND

A surprising number of people write me wanting to know how life is seen, how the world of apparent people and events looks to me. They’ve heard various speakers say that there is simply "no one" there, that everything that appears has no meaning, and even the judgments of good and bad no longer apply. It often sounds very detached, and speakers seem like they have a rule prohibiting them from discussing their direct perceptions and speaking to their audience as intimates. So there’s a lot of “no one” and “nothing” language, as in "life is happening for no one" or "life happens, but is impersonal." The awakening timeline

Here the story of awakening is felt like a somewhat remembered dream, or like the story of a character in a novel or a film. It’s not personal, and there’s no sense that “this happened to me so many years ago.” However, since I wrote emails about it then, I can give you a timeline for what happened in the space-time story.
